INDIA-US RELATION :
HOW DID THE RELATIONS EVOLVE (HISTORY)
India US relations have not always been smooth.The relations has seen many fluctuations,after independence the Indian prominent leaders had a good relation with the United States ,following the independence,the newly formed government of India was faced with a huge challenge of war with Pakistan.
In 1955, Pakistan became the member of the SOUTH EAST ASIAN TREATY ORGANISATION (SEATO) and CENTRAL TREATY ORGANISATION (CENTO) led to become officially an ally of the United state.
During 1962 Sino-India war ,The US provided assistance by posting American carrier to Bay of Bengal.By which China had declared a unilateral ceasefire.
India criticized the US intervention in vietnam in 1966.
India - Pakistan war 1971 ,US openly supports Pakistan.
In 1974, India had conducted its first nuclear weapon test and this was seen as a hostile move by the US.
In 1990, India had provided logistic support to American forces during the gulf war.
US was not able to detect India's preparations for nuclear test and under 1994 Anti proliferation law ,it had imposed economic sanction on India.
Liberalization of the Indian economy has seen an increasingly close tie between India and the US.
Civil nuclear deal in 2008.
After this the relationship is going smooth..
WHY RELATION WITH INDIA IMPORTANT FOR AMERICA
- To grow their dominance in international politics.
- India only can challenge China in the south Asian region.
- Indian ocean from where 75% of oil trade and 40% world's trade and it is dominated by Indian Navy.
- According to the Stockholm International peace research institute (SIPRI) India is the second - largest arms importer
- Both countries have common ideas and ideology.
- India became one of the largest good trading partners in 2018.
- India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
- As India is a second largest military force so for the Military exercises.
WHY RELATION WITH US VITAL FOR INDIA
- The US is vital for safeguarding India's National Interests with regards to Pakistan and Afghanistan.
- The US is also one of the top sources of FDI (foriegn direct investment) in India.
- It can help India to counter China because of the presence of the 7th fleet in the south China sea.
- The US has technological edges in the area of commerce,aerospace,Defence and intelligence.
- Arms and aircraft supplier many Aircrafts and helicopter India had purchased from the US (Apache ,Boeing Aircrafts).
- As India wants to become a permanent member of UNSC,it needs the support of the US.

ENERGY
PEACE- Promoting energy access clean energy.
PACE- Partnership to Advance clean energy.
Civil nuclear deal.
CHALLENGES:
US sanction on Russia through CAATSA (Countering America's Adversaries through sanction act)- Threatening India's strategic interests.
US sanctions on Iran and Venezuela are putting India's energy security at stake and also threat for Chabahar port.
