India-Nepal tension/border dispute
INDIA NEPAL BORDER DISPUTE
The India- Nepal relations witnessed a diplomatic problem over the functioning of the mansarovar link road "this new link will cut down travel time for kailash mansarovar pilgrims by almost 75%,it is a strategic connector that links pithoragarh in Uttarakhand to lipulekh near tri-junction(India-Nepal-china).In the reaction the government of Nepal came out with protest against the link and saying it is a unilateral act by India and arguing to refrain from such activities.
India-Nepal:
During the time of british colonial, there was the treaty of sagauli between British India in1816. Under which the Kali river made as the border between the two countries with east of the river belonging to Nepal and west part to India.
Who claims what?
Nepal asserts that the river originates from limipyadhaura, and according to treaty of Sagauli Nepalgovernment claims eastern part of river like kalapani and lipulekh as nepalese territory and whereas India claiming kalapani as the origin.
Sudden action by the Nepal :
The India nepal bilateral relations have witnessed difficulties, after 2015 relations became loose, and Nepal was seen deepening ties with china. Nepal also growing distance from India by giving upthe Bay of bengal initiative for Multi-sectoral and economic cooperation (BIMSTEC),missed the counter terror exercise in 2018,It has signed the Border road initiative (BRI) with china ,They also declared the Indian currency above Note of Rs 100 illegal in nepal. It is viewed that Nepal is not doing this alone and China seems to be a third party here,as India is going to send the investigating team to China for the purpose of the Covid-19 ,so China is directly making pressure to withdraw it.
Conclusion:
India and Nepal have historical ,Religious ,cultural similarity, this made them to be close,as India and Nepal have open border and this to be understand by nepal that china is never going to made open border between them. Both the country should have to short out the problem as soon as possible without affecting the national interest.
