PANGONG TSO, INDIA CHINA CONFLICT CHINESE BRINGS MORE BOATS TO LAKE IN THE LADAKH. PANGONG TSO: Pangong tso is a long narrow deep ,landlocked lake situated at a height of more than 14,000 ft in the Ladakh himalayas. The134 km long lake lies over 600 sq km in the shape of a boomerang and is 6-7 km wide at its broadest point. It is a brackish water (salt water as well as fresh water ) lake freezes over in winters and becomes ideal for ice skating and polo. DIPLOMACY AND STRATEGIC VIEWS: Indian assessment shows that a major chinese offensive, if it comes ,will flow across both the north and south of the lake. During the 1962 war ,this was where China launched its main offensive. and Rezangla pass is near this lake. Over the year, the chinese built roads along the bank of Pangong lake which were able to provide back support from the main area of China .
